Every winter, I look towards the coming summer as the time when I will finally get my ducks together, save up money and vacation days, plan like crazy, and finally leave on a big research expedition. Unfortunately, when every summer comes, I’m too busy, or too poor, or too unprepared to go expeditioning of into the dusty, bright season. I’m sure, however, when the year finally comes when I have the time, money, and planning to pull off some great scheme of distance research, I will use the Expedition Handbook from the Royal Geographical Society to help me plan and execute my expedition. The Handbook, which was updated in 2004, is available in hard copy from the RGS. Free digital copies of many of the chapters in the Handbook are available in .pdf format on the RGS page.
